Asia is experiencing severe drought, especially in Central Asia, where heat and water scarcity threaten agriculture and food security. Kazakhstan’s water shortages are reducing crop yields and livestock, while China’s Yangtze River basin suffers from drought, impacting water supplies and causing billions in economic losses. Key agricultural regions in northern India, including the Gangetic plains, are experiencing substantial rainfall shortages.

My latest research presented at the Drought +10 conference dives deep into the suitability of 17 key drought indices, offering insights to aid policy-makers and scientists in selecting the most suitable indices for their climate region. Discover how each index performs with various climates and what it means for their performance.
