Accelerating governance change requires efficient collaboration among stakeholders and exchange of best practices. The session introduces communities of practice as an innovative tool for collaborative learning and takes participants through the steps of creating value for their community. It also features first-hand experience from successful communities in water and climate.
The session aims to not only to present inspiring examples and highlight the benefits of Communities of Practice but to delve into the value creation and the identity of a community. Using the Value Creation Framework (Etienne Wenger, Beverly Trayner, Maarten de Laat, 2011) as a basis, it will take the participants on a value defining journey – from activities and knowledge capital to changes in practice, performance improvement and ultimately even redefinition of success. The participants will also be able to learn, exchange and get insights on experiential and community learning, innovative multi-stakeholder engagement and innovation fostering.
The session will also feature carefully selected cases of communities of different focus (drought, climate, youth, etc.) and levels – from local and country to transboundary and global, and community managers will share the ingredients for success and the challenges their communities are facing. In the spirit of communities of practice, apart from showcasing tools and sharing valuable know-how, the session will engage the participants in facilitated discussions and hands-on activities to equip them with knowledge on building and sustaining communities of practice.
