Soon we will have this year's Drought and Degradation Day (DDD) and the thematic webinar on 'Unite for Land'. Before the events, I would like to raise a question for further discussion: what disturb the unification for land (which is the motto of UNCCD)?
I personally believe that there are a few factors:
1] Lack of awareness--while many people claim it is important to collaborate to support work on drought, in practice, how many of them really did that as they claim?
2] Insufficient interdisciplinary knowledge--say an example, soil specialist do not have required knowledge of economics to lead 'economics on drought' projects, and perhaps vice versa?
3] Disparity across locations. While the definition of drought is universal (with reasonable consideration of regional and national contexts), can we really say drought in Latin America is something similar to drought in the Middle East?
OK here are a few my initial thoughts. I hope other members can join the discussion with more insights. Welcome!
