This session focused on community-based watershed management and water storage strategies for drought resilience in South Asia. Dr. Gupta presented on the karez system—an ancient underground water management method in Balochistan, Pakistan. He explained how the karez works, its cultural significance, and the challenges it faces due to climate change and the adoption of modern alternatives. Dr. Gupta recommended several actions to preserve this sustainable system: documenting traditional knowledge, offering incentives for maintenance, integrating karez with modern infrastructure, and strengthening local water committees.
