The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS), in partnership with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Social Development Direct (SDD), and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), will convene a one hour virtual webinar to launch a new policy paper on women’s water insecurity in the Middle East, and to translate the policy paper’s argument into practical examples from the Al Murunah and Al Murunah+ project in Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Egypt.
This webinar will examine how worsening water insecurity is reshaping gender dynamics and insecurity across the Middle East, including how addressing gender-based violence and intrahousehold norms and dynamics are essential to ensure that women receive benefits from water and climate resilience programming. Speakers will also highlight practical policy and development recommendations to narrow gender gaps in water equity, climate resilience, and advance a broader peace dividend in local communities.
