Restoration for Peace Must Include Latin America

The Peace Forest Initiative (PFI), a key #UNCCD programme, shows how land restoration can foster peace in fragile, conflict-affected areas. By encouraging cross-border cooperation and community-led efforts, the PFI builds trust, restores ecosystems, and supports sustainable livelihoods. Featured in the UNCCD report "Ground for Peace," the PFI offers a promising model, but its scope must grow to reflect global needs.

Latin America, where land degradation intersects with inequality and contested land rights, is notably absent from current PFI efforts. This exclusion limits local leadership and ongoing community work to restore and protect shared ecosystems across borders.

To uphold UNCCD values of equity and shared responsibility, the PFI must expand to #LatinAmerica, where land restoration is tied to justice and resilience
